A thermally optimized profile with a
Uf = 0.8 W/(m2K) at 90mm profile width has been
developed using new production technology and the first sample
have been manufactured. The new profile with the name TopTherm
90 was presented to the public at the tradefair Fensterbau/Frontale
2008 in Nuremberg.

The next stages of the project were to field-test the profile
and frame construction concerning thermal and mechanical properties;
these tests have now been successfully completed.

The TopTherm 90 has been further developed into the TT 90
- R.

Design study of the TT 90 - R with triple glazing (left)
and vacuum insulation glass (right)

The TT 90 - R achieves a Uf value
of 0.65 W/(m2K) at a glazing thickness of 36mm
and a total unit thickness of 90mm. A Uw value
of 0.77 W/(m2K) is achieved with triple glazing
(Ug = 0.7 W/(m2K)) and a Uw
value of even 0.68 W/(m2K) can be achieved using
vacuum insulation glass (Ug = 0.5 W/(m2K));
both windows measure 1.23m x 1.48m.
Life cycle assessment in accordance with
DIN EN-ISO 14044 shows that the TT 90 - R has clear advantages
over aluminium profiles and some advantage over PVC profiles
(even though the TT 90 - R’s potential recycling capacity
has not yet been evaluated).
A thermally optimized facade system has been developed. The
Active Facade 280 AF not only achieves excellent insulation
values, but also has improved features to accommodate cable
ducts and functional facade elements such as PV modules and
facade collectors. Due to their reliable aluminium design,
the profiles satisfy even the highest static demands. Specially-developed
pressure plates and isolators ensure excellent insulating
values and also enable rapid, sufficient dehumidification.
Moving-part windows in reliable aluminium design with conventional
or vacuum insulation glass can be applied as well as static
elements.

Cross-section of the Active Facade 280 AF

This construction has excellent insulation
values: at a glass thickness of 48mm, the profiles achieve
a Uf-value under 0.8 W/(m2K); using
triple glazing with a Ug-value of 0.7 W/(m2K)
the Ucw-value is 0.87 W/(m2K), and
using a combination of vacuum insulation glass and insulation
glass with a Ug-value of 0.4 W/(m2K)
the Ucw-value is even 0.81 W/(m2K).
The influence of the screws has been taken into account in
all these values (element size 1.1m x 1.2m).
